Last Weekend in London

17th December, 2006

I can't believe how fast these last months have flown by. We're headed back to Denmark next Wednesday and there are lots of loose ends to tie up, most important at my current job with the startup company iSporty. We're fighting to prioritize and implement the last must-have features by christmas to ensure a smooth launch in the new year and with less than a week to go by it will be a close call. Being hard at work is one reason I haven't posted in quite some time.

The fast approaching deadline calls for quick decisions and for keeping a healthy balance between planning and writing actual code. It's been an interesting month indeed. If everything goes well, I'll be able to continue contributing to the project from Denmark.

We've been out and about the busy streets of London the last couple of weekends, enjoying ourselves at Sushi restaurents, a little shopping and fun nights out. London is absolutely amazing right now, lit up by thousands of christmas lights across the streets, on the trees beside and in the shops. A bit overwhelming I might add, Oxford Street can be almost inpenetrable from all the shoppers :)

Just yesterday we were reminded once again of how much of London we still haven't seen. Remembering a view of the Paddington area from above with Google Earth, we decided to take a different route toward Primrose Hill. We walked behind Paddington Station and found ourselves walking alongside a beautiful canal.

The canal took us through Little Venice, aptly named for the intersection of several canals, and led us past London Zoo near Regent's Park (not revealing any animals though from our position). Along the way we passed a multitude of canal boats and a surprisingly fresh vegetation, blooming even. We reached Primrose Hill as the sun settled, revealing a magnificent view of London by night.

Though I am very much looking forward to coming home to friends, family and well know surroundings, it is a bit sad leaving a city in which I've had so much great fun. I am definitely up for a revisit sometime.

Returning to Copenhagen it will be interesting to see just how small and quiet it feels now that we've grown accustomed to the busy way of London.
