Interplanetary internet

CNN has an interesting interview with Chad Edwards, manager of the Mars Network Office [which has more interesting info and some images as well], about future plans of establishing a high-speed [as in 1Mbs] link between the Earth and Mars using an extension of TCP/IP. This would allow for much easier exploration of the planet, bringing the possibility for live MarsTV.

Chad goes on to talk about setting up more 'interplanetary routers' at Jupiter and its moon, Europa. If we should one day live on Mars, it's nice to know your email will still work....
