Maps, part II

13th February, 2001

Using satelites and advanced image processing, the Earth Resources Observation Systems Data Center scans the globe, mapping land cover. These maps can then be compared to find trends such as growing desert, foresting effects and the like that might otherwise be invisible. It's a brilliant use of technology to get a better understanding of the ecosystem and its dynamics. The site also has some very beautiful though disturbing images of the world's land cover
